To get the most for your family, use the inexpensive vacuum-syphon brewer. It produces the very best drip coffee, compared to coffee filter, gold filter, or French press. Those brewers can stand up the daily useage and they are easy to use as well as quick. Cheaper than the bodum santos, the coffee develops its aroma to the fullest.
The Yama Vacuum Brewer is a stovetop model with a capicity of 8 cups. Like other vacuum brewers the coffee that results from this maker has great body, without the sediment you get in a French press. It has a cloth filter that fits over the metal filter assembly. The lid doubles as a stand for the funnel (top glass part), and it comes with a spare cloth filter and a burner wire grid for use on an electric stove. The glass is labled on the bottom as "Heat-Resistant Yama Glass".
The brewer is easy to use. The rubber gasket between the top and the bottom -the flange on it makes the creation of an airtight seal (and the separation of top and bottom when the coffee is brewed) much easier.
The 5 cup model is fine for 4 people. For less people you should rather prefer the 5 cup model.
